I am absolutely smitten with this sweet mock-neck sweater from Anthropologie. (The brand calls this colorway “rose,” but it looks more like a poppy to me?)

My office leans on the more casual end of the business casual spectrum, so I would wear this to work with some slimmer-cut pants and a pair of loafers. If you’re on the more formal end of the spectrum, I would zhuzh it up by tucking it into a high-waisted skirt and adding some great shoes. 

The sweater is $98 at Anthropologie and comes in plus sizes 1X-3X, petite sizes XS-XL, and standard sizes XXS-XL. It also comes in seven other colorways, but sadly, not all colors are available in the non-standard sizes.

I see that Torrid has named this the “vacation dress,” but it looks like a fantastic business casual outfit to me! The reviews and accompanying photos suggest that it’s definitely opaque enough for officewear.

Add a more substantial belt and some fantastic shoes and you’ve got a gorgeous, breezy dress to get through the hottest days of summer. 

The dress is $79.90 full price — but 35% off with code — and comes in Torrid sizes 00-6, which are roughly equivalent to 10-30.

I don’t usually go for shades of brown (I’m a winter, after all), but this caramel-toned blouse from Anthropologie caught my eye.

I would wear this puff-sleeved blouse with navy trousers for the office, but I’d also love to see it with some white tailored shorts for the weekend. Come fall, I’d wear it with a plaid blazer for a collegiate look.

The blouse is $98 at Anthropologie and comes in sizes XXS-XL and 1X-3X. It also comes in white and black.

I’m loving the color of this sheath dress from Maggy London. The company calls it “teal,” but it’s looking more blue than green to my eye. I would wear this with a navy blazer for a more formal office look.​

I’m fighting an elder-millennial desire to add a statement belt, and instead might go for a bold shoe or some fun jewelry.

The dress is $138 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes 14W–22W. It's also available in straight sizes at Nordstrom, but in a darker blue (as well as black) in lucky sizes. Amazon has the dress in 0–16 and 16W–22W, depending on color.

Eloquii is one of my favorite places for well-priced basics for plus sizes. If I were starting a new work wardrobe on a budget, this ponte dress would be one of my first picks. The long sleeves make it totally acceptable for wearing on its own — or add a blazer or sweater to mix things up a bit.

As an added bonus, it’s machine washable, so you can wash and wear it once a week while you build up your collection of work-appropriate outfits.

I would recommend the black as the most versatile of the bunch, but if it’s not your thing, the dress also comes in “carafe” (a coffee brown) and “grape shake” (pinky-purple).

The dress is on sale for $59.97 (originally $99.95) at Eloquii and comes in sizes 14–28. 

Here's an option in straight sizes from Karen Kane: $41.40 on sale at Bloomingdale's and $82.80 at Dillard's (different lucky sizes at each store).

This long-sleeved shirtdress from Pari Passu is a stunner. I love this brand’s approach to sizing — in addition to numerical sizes, they also offer different shapes (straight, curvy, and hourglass), which is particularly important in plus sizing.

I would pair this dress with some bold jewelry and a great shoe for a day when I want to be feeling like the best version of myself. 

The dress is $378 and comes in Pari Passu sizes 2–7, which fit like U.S. sizes 14–24, along with curvy, straight, and hourglass shapes for each size.

For straight sizes, try this $124 dress from Foxcroft (which happens to be available in plus sizes too); if you'd like to stay closer to the original but with a lower price, check out this Loft dress (regular/petite) that comes down to $45 at checkout (with code).
