Here's a fun little question for today: how many sneakers do you currently own, and how do you choose which ones to wear with which outfits? In general: how do you wear your sneakers in 2024?

More questions: if you've spent money on designer sneakers, whether Loewe, Balenciaga, Chloe, Golden Goose, etc, what was your thought process? Is there a pair of sneakers that you've been considering forever but feels a bit too pricy? If you've bought multiples of the same sneakers over the years (like me with Converse), which shoe is it? Do you prefer different sneakers for different athletic activities, like running vs. strength training?

(Side question: what do you CALL them? Tennis shoes? Sneakers? Athletic shoes? Sneaks? This can be a regional thing, I think…)

We've rounded up the best sneakers for work outfits, as well as discussed what your weekend sneakers say about you.

How I Wear My Sneakers in 2024

I have a bunch of sneakers right now — I leaned into them after realizing that I was consistently wearing them more than flats, boots, or heels. Some of the ones in my collection, and how I wear them:

Black Converse. I just bought a new pair after having a gray pair for a thousand years; I still can't decide if I want to swap out the white laces for ivory ones to make them less… stark. I like to wear these with bootcut jeans. I've had Chucks for decades at this point, and like I wrote about when we discussed weekend sneakers, I feel like they are very much shoes that show my personality. (WHAT it's saying about my personality I'm not quite sure, but I definitely feel a sisterhood when I see other women wearing them — we're sarcastic? We like stand-up comedy? We have a lil' rebel inside? Hmmn. I considered long and hard splurging for the Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse with my most recent purchase, but ultimately decided against it.)

Black Adidas. I'm going to have to check my order history — they might be a version of Gazelles with mesh? They're mostly black shoes with white soles and a bit of mesh on the upper. Despite the fact that the shoes have a very similar profile to my Chucks, I do wear them differently — I find myself wearing the Adidas more with “current outfits,” and Converse with more classic ones. Anything that feels trendy to me will probably get Adidas or…

White Cole Haan Grand Pro Topspin platforms. I got these white and blue versions after hearing readers sing their praises — they're very comfortable and feel on trend. I'm hoping to keep them pristine white. I find myself pulling these on with wide-legged, casual styles (like my Spanx Air pants), and will probably try them with some of the cropped flares I bought in the NAS. I don't like the skirt-with-sneakers look for myself, but if I were to do it, these or the Adidas would probably be the shoes that I'd wear.

Blue Asics GT-2000. I've had a version of this shoe for decades at this point. A few years ago, I went to a sneaker store to be fitted and assessed for a sneaker and was supremely amused to walk away with the recommended item: a new pair of GT-2000s. I wear them with workout clothes, which means that during the school year especially (when I throw on workout clothes to get the kids out the door), this is most likely what I'm wearing.

Purple Kiziks (Athens). These are super comfortable, and I love that I can step into them. If we were traveling somewhere and I wanted an alternative to my Asics, I would probably bring these. If I were to get a new pair of Kiziks I'd get one of the more athletic-looking ones with the swoops on the side; I love these for comfort but sometimes they feel a bit off trend, at least for me personally.

White and green Tretorns (Rawlins). I got these on sale in the past year or two, and like them for comfort — their low profile makes them sort of interchangeable with the black Adidas. Now that I have the Cole Haans I find that I'm wearing these less, even though the Cole Haans have significantly more of a sole than the Tretorns so they're taller.

Ranked for for comfort: Chucks (with insoles), Asics, Kiziks, Cole Haan, Tretorn, Adidas.

Ranked for style: Cole Haan, Adidas, Chucks, Tretorn, Kiziks, Asics.

How about you, readers — how many sneakers do you currently own, and how do you choose which ones to wear with which outfits?

I've been combing through the just-opened Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for all the best workwear… and here are our picks! What are your favorite things in the sale this year, readers? What are you eager to stock up on, or try out in the sale?

Curious what the NAS is? It's a once-yearly sale from Nordstrom where they mark down NEW fall merchandise for a limited time — after the sale is over the prices go back up. Cardholders get to shop before the general public — and good stuff does tend to go!

The sale JUST opened for “Icons,” and tomorrow it will open for Ambassadors, and July 11 it will open for the final tier, Influencers. The sale will open for the public on July 15. (Which tier you're in depends on how much you've spent at Nordstrom in the past year (NET); you can check your status here.)

The Amazon Prime Day sales are ACTUALLY good this year... with lots of big surprise deals. (All of the deals are still good on Wednesday!)

collage of items for sale in the Amazon Prime Day

The Amazon Prime Day sales are ACTUALLY good this year… with lots of big surprise deals, including on Steelcase, Rothy's, Oura, Whoop, Peloton, Hydrow, and more. Note that Shopbop also has Prime Day deals if you link your Amazon account with your Shopbop account.

Wednesday update: I just checked all the links and almost everything is still on sale — the ones that are not marked as Prime sales (like Oura and Whoop) for me, at least, are still at yesterday's prices… and some (like this Amazon sweater) even have coupons today.

Pictured above, clockwise: blue top / ivory sweater / Trtl travel pillow / COSRX Snail Mucin / Peloton / Shark FlexStyle / Steelcase Leap / Rothy's pointy-toe flat / Laneige lip mask / Oura ring

Immediately Added to My Cart

  • Oura Ring – I've wanted one of these for a while and may have to pull the trigger on this deal. Oooh and now I see they also have a Whoop band. Hmmmn… (Update: I ordered the Whoop 4.0 because I didn't know my size with the Oura Ring… I'll keep you posted!)
  • Trtl travel pillow – I've seen readers saying good things about this weird travel pillow, but the price is on the higher side… but it's marked down today.
  • Shark FlexStyle – I'm a fan of Shark hair products and have been happily using their hairdryer for a while now — their airwrap/no heat curler is in the sale today and I'm mightily tempted!
  • Built bars – they're a bit weird but they're one of my favorite protein bars. (The Puff bars are particularly weird but I like them — very squooshy and marshmallowy.)
  • 5-shelf corner shelf — I don't remember why I had this on one of my personal lists, but it's under $25 in select colors (down from $65+) — “dark walnut” seems to be the best deal
  • I always like to load up on Anker power cords and power strips while they're on sale
  • Julep cream eyeshadow sticks – I feel like I buy 1 or 2 of these every Prime Day sale — this year i have copper shimmer in my cart; in years past I've also bought and liked their taupe, rose, a light purple, a dark brown…
  • Also of note: if you've been looking to add a walking pad or under-desk treadmill to your home office, there are some great sales, including on this reader-recommended one
  • Steelcase chairs are in the sale!! The reader favorites are the Leap and the Gesture
  • Another note: big deals on Peloton and Hydrow, with $100s off bikes, rowers, treadmills, and more
  • Lots of DryBar products are in the sale

3 of the Best Self-Tanners for 2024 https://corporette.com/3-of-the-best-self-tanners-for-2024/ https://corporette.com/3-of-the-best-self-tanners-for-2024/#comments Thu, 11 Jul 2024 17:23:13 +0000 https://corporette.com/?p=174082

Readers, do you use self-tanner? What are your favorite brands and products? These are some of the best we've found...

The post 3 of the Best Self-Tanners for 2024 appeared first on Corporette.com.

]]>

If your pale, post-winter/spring skin needs a boost, or you naturally have a medium or darker skin tone and want some enhancement, a self-tanner may be just the thing. Today we're rounding up three of the best self-tanners to easily and quickly give you that warmer glow without any harmful UV rays. (By the way, a “base tan” isn't what it's cracked up to be.)

Readers, do you use self-tanner? What are your favorite brands and products?

A quick note: As with a lot of beauty products, online reviews for self-tanners aren't always super helpful, as there are often a wide variety of opinions, from “I love this self-tanner! It applies perfectly” to “This smells horrible, is patchy, and I hate it.” So, YMMV — that's why travel sizes can be your friend here. Many brands offer travel/mini sizes, such as Bondi Sands, Beauty by Earth, and Isle of Paradise.

{related: what is your favorite sunscreen? — and yes, we're due for an update!}

Here are some of the best self-tanners out there.

Reader-Favorite Self-Tanners

These are some of the self-tanning products readers have recommended — and we're excited to try these newer self-tanner drops that you add to your regular lotion. During the NAS, Nordstrom has some great deals on self-tanner drops and St. Tropez mousse, also…

3 of the Best Self-Tanners for 2024

Best General Self-Tanner: St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse

A blue bottle of St. Tropez mousse tanner

This limited edition, Sephora-exclusive self-tanner, St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse, is in mousse form and has an “island-inspired” fragrance. Specifically, St. Tropez notes, it smells like “tropical fruit blended with velvety coconut, vanilla, and Tahitian gardenia.” (That does sound nice.)

Reviewers' opinions of the scent include “pleasant,” “fresh,” “divine,” “really good” and also … “a problem for some people.”

To use this tanner, which is vegan and cruelty-free, you apply with a mitt and wait one to three hours before showering. Your tan will develop over the next eight hours.

Nordstrom has a value set (two containers, 3.38 oz. + 13.7 oz.) for $56 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale; you can also find this self-tanner for $46 for 6.7 oz. at Sephora. (There are also self-tanning drops from St. Tropez in the NAS.)

Best Face Self-Tanner: Tan-Luxe The Face Illuminating Self-Tan Drops

A bottle of Tan-Luxe The Face self-tanning drops

You've got a choice for getting more color on your face, and if you're seeking something that lasts longer than a bronzer or tinted moisturizer, these self-tanner face drops from UK company Tan-Luxe are a good bet. The Face is designed to be added to your moisturizer, serum, or face oil, and you can customize the shad — from 2 drops (“radiant”) to 12 drops (“bronzed”). (You might want to start small, to avoid a Ross “Mississippi” situation.)

This product is cruelty-free, vegan, and also free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oil, silicone, and talc. Reviewers say the scent is “great,” “way better than other self-tanners,” or alternately, “strongly like apple cider vinegar,” or non-existent. So, yeah.

These face drops are $50 for 1 oz. at Nordstrom and are available in two shades: light/medium and medium/dark.

(There are also self-tanning drops from St. Tropez in the NAS — 2 oz. for $59.)

Best Self-Tanner for Darker Skin Tones: Loving Tan Platinum Ultimate Self Tanning Mousse

a bottle of Loving Tan Platinum Ultimate Self Tanning

For a recommendation for a self-tanner that works well for darker skin tones, we turned to the Instagram of Jackie Aina, popular Nigerian American content creator and lifestyle brand founder. (Check out her Black Girls Tan” Insta story highlights for more!)

Aina says she loves this Platinum Ultimate Self Tanning Mousse from Australian brand Loving Tan. It's an Allure Best of Beauty award winner, too, and promises “The deepest, darkest tan possible.” (Especially if you have lighter skin, note the company's caveat, “experienced tanners only.”)

Loving Tan claims this self-tanner will dry in as little as 60 seconds and will develop your tan in two hours — a lot more quickly than some other tanners. Not only can it enhance your skin tone, but it can help with hyperpigmentation.

Various reviewers say the scent is “minimal,” “pleasant,” “does not smell good,” or is nonexistent, so YMMV.

This self-tanner mousse is $27.96 (30% off, marked down from $39.95) for 3.3 oz. at Nordstrom; the 6.7-oz. size is available at Ulta for $65.

Readers, please share! What are your favorite self-tanners for face and body?

Which Watches Do You Wear in 2024? https://corporette.com/which-watches-do-you-wear-in-2024/ https://corporette.com/which-watches-do-you-wear-in-2024/#comments Mon, 24 Jun 2024 17:37:36 +0000 https://corporette.com/?p=173218

Are watches status symbols to you? Are they a mode of expressing your personality so much that you swap them in and out for different occasions? Or are you more utilitarian with a basic Apple Watch or other wearable tech that tells the time? (Or are you anti-wrist watch altogether?)

The post Which Watches Do You Wear in 2024? appeared first on Corporette.com.

]]>
woman wears gold wristwatch; she is also wearing a stripey blouse and has red nails

Which watches do you wear on a regular basis (if any)? Do you collect watches on either a casual basis (“cute watch!”) or a serious basis (“this is where I spent my bonus”)? If you do have multiple watches, how do you choose which ones to wear? Have digital watches (or other digital technology) changed your relationship with watches?

There was a WSJ story about this recently(ish), mostly about men's wristwatches habits — they're getting more colorful! As the article (gift link) notes:

More guys are clocking the appeal of unobvious designs, according to Eric Macaire, executive director, global buying and merchandising, at British retailer Watches of Switzerland. Lately, he said, his customers are going for timepieces with pop-colored dials, innovative treatments (such as textural or laser finishes) and cases in less-typical materials such as bronze.

With a little off-menu thinking, you too can avoid the usual suspects and find a ticker that stops short of weird, yet is just different enough to earn compliments. Such stylish conversation-starters can be found at all prices, from a few hundred bucks and up. You just need to know what to look for.

Nice! But in my experience the whole world of watches (and people who care about them) is a very specific subgroup of old money and people who aspire to that sort of thing. It felt really fun discovering that world back in the day when I hemmed and hawed for years before deciding on a classic Cartier tank… which I now never wear because I prefer my Apple Watch.

(Also, there was an incident early on when one of my babies spat breastmilk on it, and… it suddenly seemed like a stupid thing to be wearing casually.)

So I'm curious — are watches status symbols to you? Are they a mode of expressing your personality so much that you swap them in and out for different occasions? Or are you more utilitarian with a basic Apple Watch or other wearable tech that tells the time? (Or are you anti-wrist watch altogether and just rely on your phone or computer screen?)
